Tombstone Senior Citizens, Inc. -- "The Inc. Gang"

Every good story has an evil villain, or better yet, a gang of bad guys.   As usual, some of the folks in the gang are just dupes or side-kicks, but there are always a couple or three ringleaders.   You recognizer the ringleaders as I mention them.

TSC was originally set up as an advisory board.  In 2003???  Tom, the president, got totally fed up with the bad guys and quit, taking about 100 members with him.  (!!)  The club was down to about 25 or so "active" members, with about 65 people on the roles.

The remaining members became a private club, with $12 annual membership dues. They voted whether or not to accept you as a a member.  They accepted donations from the citizens of Tombstone, fixtures, furniture, books, games & videos, and of course, money.  They solicited and accepted gifts from the local clubs (Lions, Vigilantes, Hells Belles) and local merchants.  Chip told me that, as head of the local Lions Club, he wrote a check every month earmarked for the "food program" at TSC.

The food program was interesting... the club ate out 3 nights a week at local restaurants.  (I went to one and was ignored by everyone but Gail, a misplaced good guy.)  Marge -- one of the ringleaders -- had hot dogs ($1) and bingo every Tuesday.   I went in to get a dollar hot dog.

"You have to call a day in advance" she said.

"For a HOT DOG?"  I said incredulously.

"Well, I make up side dishes at home, and bring them in."  (This actually is illegal under the Arizona Food Laws.)   I should have insisted on just a hot dog, but they were busy playing bingo, so I left them alone.

When we first began to investigate, they said they were NOt a private club.  Later, in Dec. 2009, they voted to become a private club.   Later, they rescinded this resolution.

They were renting the Fire House from the City for a dollar a month.  Now they are running an ad in the paper, looking for someplace "with a kitchen."
