Western Books & Writing

Good authors have been writing about the West since Americans started the western movement.   I had a good start on a collection, but I have been taking advantage of the excellent Sierra Vista library, and the little library here in Tombstone, which has "The Arizona Collection" -- a couple of shelves of books about Tombstone and Cochise County.

Fiction

Some of the books that are purported to be fact are actually fiction -- which has generated a lot of writing -- in consternation.  I will discuss that below.  Right now, I want to talk about the novels which I have been reading lately.  It deserves a separate page.

Non-Fiction

Inventing Wyatt Earp

The West of the Imagination  This five-and-a-half pound book supports my conviction that the west is more a product of memory than "authenticity."  It is glorious!

Comics

I was pleased to find that Stan Lynde, who created Rick O'Shay and his sidekick Hipshot Percussion, was still alive and kicking!  He has a website here: and he has continued to write western fiction, as well as making all of his wonderful cartoons available.
