Walter Brennan
My test of a great movie is whether I can recall a scene and replay it in my
memory! If it's a vivid memory, I can do that any time and any
place. I collect movies so that I can go back and watch the movie again,
and recapture the scene yet again, relishing it as I watch. Walter Brennan
is SO memorable!
He was one of the first guys to play Old Man Clanton in the Tombstone saga in
"My Darling Clementine" In "Red River" he played
the grumpy cook/old man which would become his stock in trade. He plays
Stumpy in "Rio Bravo"
(my all time favorite Western) and played that same role a hundred times more.
These roles are so memorable that someone captured them on YouTube.
A narration of the OK Corral gunfight, with that great picture of Walter as Old
Man Clanton:

Stumpy, doing his imitation of John Wayne:

the trigger..."

Aren't we lucky?!!!
